Meeting Grief

A COMMUNITY GRIEF WORKSHOP & RITUAL

The experience of grieving is one we all share, yet seldom do we grieve together.

This workshop creates a safe space to explore grief in community. You don't have to carry it alone.

Like banking, education, and therapy, grieving has become privatized in the western world. We've lost indigenous practices of grieving together. We face the impossibility of containing grief while releasing it alone. When we grieve together, we find we are not alone in our despair. We are welcomed and held in community.

Kim partners with Linda Anne Goulet—a certified End of Life Doula and Tai Chi/Qigong instructor—to work through the 5 Gates of Grief as outlined by Francis Weller. At each gate, participants write, share, and learn an accompanying movement practice.

These workshops provide a safe container to explore how grief presents in the body—how it arises, makes itself known, and fades away. We will not eliminate grief, nor analyze it clinically or critically, rather we will become curious about it, sit with it, and move with it. In one another’s company we become a bit more familiar with and fluent in grief’s particular soul language, and in doing so, create a bit more ease and space in our hearts.

Special Offering: We can facilitate private workshops for your group (therapists, caregivers, bereavement groups, first responders). Please Contact Us for more information.

A Note on Physical Accessibility

At the conclusion of the event we typically take a walk to the ocean for a releasing ritual. This requires navigating a long set of stairs (100) with no handrail and a brief trail walk. Unfortunately, this portion of the event is not handicap accessible. We can arrange to drive to a level spot, but a short trail walk and small steps remain. Hiking poles or a cane may be helpful.

How to Register:

  1. Complete the Interest Form below and indicate your preferred dates

  2. You will be added to our mailing list. When registration opens (typically 6-8 weeks before the workshop), Kim will email you with registration instructions and a payment link

  3. Spots are limited to 8 people and are filled on a first come first served basis. When you receive Kim's email that the registration is open, complete your registration forms and submit payment promptly to secure your spot.

  4. Complete registration forms and submit payment. You will receive a confirmation email once your payment is processed and your spot is reserved.

Please only submit payment after registration for your event has opened. Your spot is reserved only after payment is received. Submitting an Interest Form does not guarantee a reservation.

Praise from Past Participants

  • My fierce, beautiful, and courageous griefwalkers --- I have been drinking the heart tea everyday and savoring each sip as I recall the warmth of our time together. The last few days have been busy and I am exhausted. But I feel more integrated into myself and this process of living our grief, and grateful to have found such kinship with each of you.

    Sophia, CA

  • I would like to express deep gratitude for the Grief Workshop and Ritual you facilitated for us this past weekend.  It was beautifully put together and guided and I am very grateful for all the gifts you and Linda Ann provided the group.

    Julia H.

  • I want to thank you again for leading the wonderful grief ritual in June. It was truly a salve for my heart to be witnessed and to witness others in sorrow and to be held in the container you created.

    Esther M., TX

  • The moment I walked into the room, the facilitator I had yet to meet, greeted me with a hug and said, "You must be Eric". From that moment on, whatever I was carrying in response to this, dissipated. I felt empowered to authentically reveal the areas in my life where I feel angry, disempowered, shame, and unwelcomed grief.

    Eric

  • [A]s the youngest person in the group it was such a healing experience for me to see elders being so vulnerable and holding space for one another in such a safe & compassionate way. Thank you all for serving as my grief guides as I continue my own journey so that I can serve as a guide for my own students and younger generations too.

    Raina L., CA

  • I felt that the space you both held for all of us was perfect and I felt safe and able to be vulnerable, thank you.  It was really great and I will definitely do another one at some point, Thanks for all your effort and expertise, you are both a blessing for all of us.

    Grant S., NZ

  • Thank you for sharing such a profound time of deep grief, reflection, tears, and healing.  It was beautiful to not feel alone in my grief.

    Sharee S., CA

  • It was so very delightful to be led in the practice of qi gong by someone who understood how to be with the practice while integrating challenging energy.

    Eric

  • Thank you again for holding such beautiful sacred space this weekend. It was truly wonderful to be held by Kim birdsong and Linda Anne as we dove deeply into grief together. When I cast my rocks into the ocean I could feel some lightness in my being.

  • This was the best thing I could have ever done for myself, to spend time exploring my heart. It was raw and good.

    Marlene, CA

  • It was f**king awesome!

    Amber, CA

  • I wanted to thank you so much for the heartwarming, heart wrenching, and heart opening grief ritual. I felt held in such a safe, loved container. The ritual is still strongly felt and helps me to feel rooted. Thank you so, so much!

    Kathy D. CA

  • I really appreciate the way you both held our group with so much grace and intentionality. You can really tell how much time and intention went into planning and facilitating the gathering. I also loved the incorporation of the physical movements throughout the workshop. I am really looking forward to incorporating some of these movements into my writing practice! Thank you again for a wonderful, transformative weekend!

    Sarah N., MI

  • Your dance of holding space and healing is beautifully orchestrated and much needed at this time. The ceremonial feel of the weekend leaves me cleaner, richer and clearer to move into my life this week. I feel more hopeful than I have in a while and simply, there is more space within me. You are both so gifted in your craft and I am so grateful for your time, energy and presence. I am honored to share space with you. So happy to know you are alchemizing the madness of the world and making it a gentler place.,

    Amy, CA

  • Oh Wow! Such gratitude to spend hallowed time with brave brother and sisters of sorrow and to emerge in altered reverence for the blessings of this precious life. The magnificent Kim and Linda Ann offer a sacred container of compassion, care, love, and poetry, that transcends the description of a Grief Workshop. Though honoring the teachings of Francis Weller’s “The Wild Edge of Sorrow”, their unique humanity, grace, wisdom and their own humble luminous hearts lifted us all into the possibility of a new relationship with our grief, and freedom beyond our suffering. Cathartic, truly transformative, and culminating in a ritual of astonishing beauty, release and power on the edge of the Pacific. I will never forget, as the ancient echo of that prayer song and loving witness of community uplifts me to this day. Forever Grateful!
